I use to sleep walk when I was a child, and it is my hunch that I had sleep terrors or night terrors as well, but I am not for certain. When I was fourteen-years-old, I started experiencing sleep paralysis, hypnogogic hallucinations and lucid dreaming. Of course, at the time, I had no idea to coin any of these terms with what I was going through. Within the first ten to fifteen minutes of me 'falling asleep' my mind was still awake and my spiritual self was no longer attached to my body. There appears to be more and more research being done on this front, but to date, there is no true explanation or medical treatment to cure this phenomenon.
For anyone that has had hypnogogic hallucinations during sleep paralysis, you understand how frightening these can be at first (or even second, third, fourth, etc.). In medieval times, this use to be called old hag syndrome because there was the belief that a spritual succubus, relentless evil woman, or any type of demon would come and sit on top of the victim, draining their life energy from them. There have also been some accounts in the middle east of it being called psychic vampirism, for those vampires that feed off of energy instead of blood. Nevertheless, I did not know these things either when the experiences started. I just thought I was possessed by demons that I often seen in my hallucinations.
For the sake of brevity, let me give a sample of what may occur:
You are laying in bed, breathing deeply trying to fall asleep. Slowly, your body seems to melt away and then you feel what seems to be an electrical current popping in your head. Your senses literally shake, much like the sound of a old television first turning on and trying to bring up a picture. Then, a strong wind (and I mean extremely strong) rushes around your body and presses down on your chest. This might take your breath away at first, but soon you learn to breathe calmly through it. This is followed by audio hallucinations, the roaring of trains, gunfire sounding, screaming of people dying, angry voices yelling; sometimes it is just one or the other, other times it is a mixture of all the above. If you choose to open your eyes, you may have strange shadows lurking over you, dark eyes searching you. Or, it could be a woman with sharpened fangs howling in your face. It could be any number of beasts or demons, or long dead corpses wielding chainsaws and screaming your name. I long ago learned it was best to keep my eyes steadily shut. You may try to scream or turn away, but your body is completely paralyzed. And although you can hear the people in your house talking, or the fan blowing in the room, or feel the person at your side fast asleep - you cannot alert anyone in the real world. You are trapped for minutes at a time, which feels indefinitely longer. When you finally make your brain recognize what is happening, your spiritual self reconnects with your body, and you jerk to full alert, yelling or gasping deeply, and feeling completely rested.
I have went through this off and on for the past 12 years. Sometimes it was as infrequent as once a month. Or, like this month, it may be every three days or so. It is usually brought on by a lack of sleep or an increase in stress levels. Recently, I have learned to induce the experience though without having either.
You may ask why I would want to do this. Well, a week ago, the whole thing started, but instead of going through the usual hypnogogic hallucinations, I completely separated from my physical body. I pulled away and a full out-of-body experience (OBE). I was in my room, looking around and checking things out - fully conscious of my surroundings - while my physical self was fast asleep on the bed. I did not leave my bedroom, but I am told that once accomplishing this feat, one can travel anywhere in the world in a matter of moments like a ghost or even travel time and other planes of existence. I am interested to find the truth in those statements.
Cheers.

Another Book Update
I have completed chapter three and chapter four over the past weekend. I am excited that I was so accomplished. After having my quasi-editor look over my first four and the prologue, I received some good feedback. Now, its time to fill in the blanks before continuing. I have just over 40 pages written. My goal for the next couple of days is to add on about another 20 pages of exposition into the writing to provide more introduction for the characters and backstory. Quite exhilirating!
Then, I will move on to Chapter 5, which I hope to complete by the end of January, at least. I know that school is going to bog me down a bit, but I am determined to find the time to complete this project. Once this project is finished, I am going to work diligently at getting this book and my children's books published, while working on yet, another, fantasy romance novel. Ooo, the creative juices are flowing.
On another note, I have been keeping a paranormal/OBE journal lately. Some strange things have been going on with this recently, and I have delved into a greater understanding. I suppose if anyone wants to hear about this, I could elaborate.
Cheers.

Violence Could Be the Answer
I want to start this post by writing a short letter to the Man.
The Man,
I am writing to inform you that if your testicles are lonely, my foot would be more than happy to provide them company along with the elements of speed, force and repetition.
Sincerely,
Me
I attended my first college class for the semester yesterday, and I have to say that it was a huge waste of time. It was a scheduled 2 1/2 hour class and yet, we spent a total of 45 minutes in the class. We were able to cover our name, if we were a graduate or undergraduate, and then reviewed the syllabus. A syllabus, I may add, that I had read myself 2 hours beforehand online when the teacher posted it. But, that is okay, I guess not everyone has learned how to read before college, and we need an instructor to waste our time to tell us what the words mean in their little handout. Seriously, I could have sent photo identification and a brief statement saying that I was a graduate student.
Thanks Man, for wasting my time and my money. Great education we have in this country.
Cheers.

Eggs in a Tortilla
As the title suggests, eggs in a tortilla are amazing. I think I could eat this every night. It is true that I always make three, although two are filling enough. But somehow...oh somehow, I get it all down. A cold glass of chocolate milk on the side is a favorite.
I have completed my rough draft of my prologue, and I am halfway through completing chapter three on the fantasy romance novel. I am just moving right along, and it is nice. I also reviewed my twelve children's books the other day and I figured its about time to actually look for a publisher for them. I thought I needed an illustrator before I sought out a publisher, but it seems that this is not necessarily the case. Thus, onward I should go. Maybe I can actually publish something by the end of the year.
School starts tomorrow. Excitement fills me like a grave.
I think I would enjoy college if they ever, in fact, taught me something. Such a waste of time for a piece of paper saying that I am intelligent. Stupid system.
Cheers.

Now You're a Man
I am exhausted today. I need a nap before work. Probably not going to happen.
Quite excited that I have got my new gaming ASUS laptap yesterday. Its so nice and elegant. A great investment that I am going to keep far away from the children. This one will not be destroyed by a thermos of coffee. Say it with me. "Coffee will not destroy this computer."
So, I found the movie 300 for $5.00. I definitely bought it, and watched it as soon as I got home. I just truly enjoy that movie and wish the real world functioned like that. I know, I am probably borderline insane. But man, to have a society that functioned like that with all the intertwinings of mythology and war. Yeah, it actually gives you something to live for. The adventure...the glory...that is what is truly motivating. No one likes living day to day trying to figure out how to pay their next bill. Can't we all just kill each other again for the sake of hubris ! Would it really be that bad?
But, 300...yeah, that is an excellent way to entertain yourself for a few hours. And, if you haven't seen the 300 "Now You're a Man" music video on youtube. Well, duh, I recommend it.
Cheers.

Show Me the Money
I apologize for the Jerry Maquire reference in the title. It just seemed to be the most fitting.
My financial aid should be coming in today, and I am relatively excited about it. They are not expecting me to work full time, so it is a nice chunk of change that will help me get caught up on bills and whatnot. Not to mention, I will be having my tax return in another 3-4 weeks. Hopefully, this will give me a little boost to the financial crisis I have been in for the last couple of years. Booyah!
I finished my second chapter yesterday afternoon before work. I am excited about it too. I started on chapter 3, but then decided that I needed a bit of an outline so I created one that is really useless at this point. I think it is time to just start typing for a couple more chapters before worrying about an outline. Right now, I really just want to fill the paper. I can always edit and perfect the writing later on.
Short excerpt:
“Fine and fine again, but ya know as well as I that things were much more proper when Lord Frantisek was in the castle," Macklin said.
“Hush!” the older man squeaked, “That name has been forbidden to mention two decades now. Yer gonna bring the lot of hell’s armies down upon us!”
“Bah! No demon from the abyss is going ta slay a man when he is drinking his beer. That’d be a devil blasphemy, it would!”
A waitress with long black hair, and dark green eyes poured rum into the first man’s mug. She did not look directly at either of the men as they talked about the Goutai or the rule of the Frantiseks, but she did take her time in refilling the drink. Her apparent lack of interest caused Mikhayla to be all the more fascinated by her.
Macklin continued with a snort, “E’pecially when he be drinkin it around half-clad wenches.” He reached out, and rubbed his hand down the revealed cleavage of the barmaid pouring his drink. “Is not that right?”
The woman smiled politely, moving her hair behind her shoulder to better reveal her flushed breasts. Her own green bodice pushed them together creating two sweetly curved mounds. She licked her glistened lips, “Surely, it is, sir.” Macklin only stared back in delight.
Mikhayla stared onward in complete amazement. She is a wench!
The older man, not seeming to realize the situation developing, sustained the conversation with Macklin, “Aye, but once you step outside of the tavern, away from the booze and the bitches, then… oh then, the very ground opens from beneath the soles of your boots. Next thing ya find, is yer flesh being ripped from bone by clawed hands. And if that isn’t enough, yer blood will singe to your skeleton from fires greater than anything the wench could have produced in yer loins!”

Tired Tuesday
First, an update on the novel. I still have not quite completed Chapter 2 because I spent all weekend rearranging the house furniture. I am planning on completing it today before work. I have an ample opportunity if all goes as according to plan. I might even be able to slip a quick nap in as well. It is amazing to me how much smoother the writing flows in romance fantasy novels as opposed to regular fantasy novels. I think its the increase in dialogue between characters. Words just fill the pages easier.
Yesterday, was my 2nd son's second birthday. Ate cake and ice cream and all that jazz. He is becoming quite the ornery child, but I know it comes with this age group. We watched G-Force as a family last night, and I cannot say that the movie was exceptionally grand but it did have a few entertaining scenes. Of course, my youngest did not want to watch it and ended up falling asleep in the chair. I really enjoyed Steve Buscemi's character in the movie, but I enjoy about anything that Steve does.
I wonder if Mr. Buscemi's parents had a conversation like this when he was born:
Excerpt from Over the Hedge:
"I'd feel a whole lot better if it just had a name."
"Let's call it Steve!"
Yeah, you can tell that I have children. Oh, and apparently the word 'nevermind' is not really a word.
Well, nothing else to really talk about. I just need to get started on the book without any further delay. Have a good Tuesday!
Cheers.

Somebody's Poisened the Waterhole
Just to let everyone know, I offhandedly start every new post with 'well' and then I hit backspace on my keyboard 4 times, and start again without the 'well'.
Things were looking fairly bright for the New Year starting and the month of January. College classes are starting up again soon, but that means I was getting a nice loan from the government to help cover my expenses. My workload increased, but that meant that I had more reason to perfect my career as a supervisor. And, my kids are happy as well as the wonderful girl that spends every day with me.
But then, my ex-wife decided to file bankruptcy on everything that she has ever had her name on, which includes my house, my truck, the van that was her responsibility and all of the medical bills for my first three kids (the last two which were outlined as her debt according to our divorce decree). So, that means that I have now inherited about $10,000 extra in debt when I was just pulling my drowning face out of the water of financial burden. Furious does not even begin to feel the emotion that I am experiencing.
So, I am trying not to think about ... several things. And instead, I am attempting to focus on my wonderful family here at the house. Of course, as you would imagine, this has caused my stress level to sky rocket. I have also tried to keep focus on the novel and work on it, but having to research my options of responding to the 'bankruptcy crisis of 2010' - I have not found much time. Never fear, though - I plan to get started wholeheartedly tonight after work. Perhaps, finish chapter 2 by tomorrow afternoon. Yes...yes...that would make my spirits lighten.
On a completely separate note, I think that I may be a failure at understanding Blogger or Blogger has failed to meet my blogging needs. I cannot find where I receive alerts that someone has either commented on my blog or that someone has responded on their blog to my comment. It is frustrating to have to scroll through my blogs and past blogs of others to find out if somebody might have said something. If I am missing something vital in this process, please let me know.
Cheers.

Seven Up, Why Not Six?
I was sick again last night, vomiting into a trashbag for several hours. I am not sure what is up with me lately. I have been sick more often the past couple of months than I usually am. I typically follow suit as one of those guys that never gets ill.
But, I drank some 7-up last night to quench my thirst and settle my stomach, and it magically did the job. I always wondered why 7-up works so well when you are sick. It always seems to have the little bit of umph to push someone over to the feeling better' stage.
Book update: I have finished Chapter 1 and I am halfway through Chapter 2. Maybe a small excerpt soon.
Cheers.

Writing, Ducks, and Other Distractions
I have been tearing away at this first chapter of the fantasy romance novel in attempts to finish it by last night. But, I just cannot seem to find a good stopping point for the first chapter. It just goes on and on and on. Oh well, my goal is really just to fill the pages for now and edit later. Last night, though I had little luck working on the chapter. My two boys were vomiting from about 6:30 PM to 3:00 AM - so that took all my time: cleaning them up, comforting them, and so forth. Poor kids! Today is the oldest boy's birthday too!
In other news, the topic at work was circulating about a man that had molested a duck at a city park a while back. Apparently, this was caught on tape by some woman in the park. The man had his pants down, his whatnot flapping about, and the duck ... well, you get the idea. I have heard that there is information regarding this on the wonderful internet, but I cannot find it for the life of me. Either some one has terrible misconstrued the story - or this is something that the sickest of the sick doesn't want the real world to see.
Well, time to lay the kids down for a nap, get back to my noodles and dew, and continue on chapter one.
Cheers.

Sher-lock and Load It
I went to the movie theater last night, after eating a fabulous prime rib steak and mashed potatoes at the roadhouse with my wonderful lady. We decided to catch the new Sherlock Holmes film with Robert Downey, Jr., who I have to admit has amazed me in the past few years with his acting ability.
I was not really hesitant about seeing this film. After watching Robert in Iron Man and Tropic Thunder, I knew that he was not going to disappoint me in portraying the detective of 21 Baker Street. I have to say that the movie was quite entertaining, full of action and clever little subtleties that just make me giggle on the inside and laugh on the outside. The movie was constructed and directed ever so cleverly, in my unprofessional opinion. If you have not seen it, I would recommend it if you are go to go waste some money at the theater.
With that, I am going to go complete the first chapter of my new novel. I have not decided if I want to post excerpts on here or not. I will have to review some rules for different literary companies; it has been so long since I found what could previously be shared to the public before a book is published. Nevertheless, I am hoping to have at least 10 chapters done by the end of this month, that is a chapter every 3 days. That should be, at least, 100 pages in my wonderful Word document. Wish me luck!
Cheers.
